My mental health

Thanks Purple Jen for starting this! I began suffering from depression when I was 18. It got better for a time without medication but resurfaced when I was 21. A doctor prescribed anti-depressants but my parents pressured me to come off them. I continued to suffer from severe anxiety and depression until I was 40. I have now been on Citalopram from 25 years and I wondered why I waited so long to get help. I had two years of counselling when I was 40 which also helped but having ME/CFS made it worse again. I do as much as I can to socialise and get our of the house as much as possible. The show cheers me up and listening to all you lovely people though I'm rarely awake before 10.00.

Thank you for sharing your story. It really resonates and it’s so good to hear that you finally found the support that works for you, even if it took time to get there. It must have been so difficult coping for all those years without the right help, especially with the added challenge of ME/CFS. It sounds like you’ve done brilliantly to keep finding ways to stay connected and to get out when you can, even with the fatigue and low energy that come with it. I’m glad the show brings you some cheer and that this community helps you feel a bit less alone. You’ve shown so much resilience and self-awareness in finding what helps you.

Be kind to yourself as you’re doing really well and we are always here when you need a virtual hug x Much love
